We are excited to announce the successful completion of a transformative project co-implemented by Youth Power Organization (YPO) and Swisscontact, generously funded by the Embassy of Switzerland in Tanzania.
Project Overview
From July 18, 2023, to February 17, 2024, our collaborative efforts focused on providing vocational skills development training in fish farming and processing to 100 young individuals aged 15-35 from eight wards in Morogoro Municipal Council, Tanzania.

Impact and Achievements
Through intensive training sessions conducted exclusively at fish farms in designated locations, we’ve empowered youth with a remarkable 60% being female, to enter the fish farming industry. The results have been truly inspiring. Immediately post-training, 22 trainees ventured into self-employment in the fried fish business, while 15 secured employments in fish farms as attendants and technicians earning between TZS 150,000/= to 200,000/=.

Creating Sustainable Employment Opportunities
Thanks to our partnership with local fish farm owners, we’ve not only provided essential training but also facilitated the creation of decent employment opportunities. YPO played a crucial role in securing 19 employment contracts, connecting farm owners with 19 unemployed youth seeking jobs in the sector. We’ve also provided supplementary capital, totaling over 4,200 fish fingerlings, to 10 fish farmers who demonstrated dedication to enhance youth employment in their operations.

Acknowledging Our Partners
We extend our deepest gratitude to our partners whose invaluable contributions made this project a success. Special thanks to fish farm owners for their support in providing training venues and employment opportunities, local government for hosting youth selection processes, and the Association of Aquaculture in Tanzania (AAT) for their guidance and expertise.

Looking Ahead
As we celebrate these achievements, we remain committed to supporting the continued growth and success of young people in the fish farming industry. With ongoing efforts and partnerships, we aim to further expand opportunities and drive positive change in communities.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of this project. Let’s keep the momentum going!
